When the braces are in, the gums may be soft and there is bone loss and gain going on in the jaw, so the teeth may be slightly prone to movement, hence wearing a retainer after the brace comes off to let the supporting structures form fully holding the teeth in place.

Reply:Nope, I never heard of such a thing. They fix your teeth (straighten them is what I mean).
Reply:Before you get braces, you may have to get extractions. I don't think you should lose any while wearing them.
