How many times can you throw up before your teeth's enamel erodes?

i used to be bulimic in my late teens and early twenties. i only threw up about once a day for 2 years. I'm 32 now. Recently, i've been struggling with my binging and purging temptations. i've thrown up about 5 times in the last month. In the past month, i've felt like my teeth loses it's smooth enamel feeling the next day but then feels normal the following day. I wonder if i've permanently damaged my teeth's enamel already or if you have to throw up a lot more to do that. i just went to the dentist last week and she didn't mention that she noticed anything. But i didn't tell her to look either.

You have done permenant damage to your teeth already and you have also damaged your esophagus. You need to seek help before the damage you cause will be death because binging and purging it hard on your heart and can cause cardiac arrest. You are not at the point that you just tried it once or twice... you had full blown bulimia nervosa from I'm guessing 19-20 and now you are at it again. 5 times is 5 times too much for anyone, especially someone who is known for being addicted to that type of behavoir.
Reply:You can throw up unlimited times. Have fun !!
Reply:Please seek professional help if you are struggling with binging and purging temptations.
Reply:Damage starts immediatly.
Reply:Take antacids--calcium carbonate is cheap and easy on the system--about 5 minutes before your innie turns into an outie.

And seek professional help to get to the deeply-rooted core problems that are causing you to act out this way.

Esophageal cancer is a bigger worry that false teeth. Best of luck.
Reply:I would be more concerned about losing your teeth altogether. People who throw up a lot, be they alcoholics or bullimics, run a much higher risk of losing all of their teeth in their early 40s when the gums loosen. I'd speak to your dentist about it next time.
Reply:You shouldnt worry about your teeth, you should be worried about these purging temptations. I suggest you get help for that and than worry about your teeth. I dont understand why anyone would wanna be that thin that they would harm themselves. You need to check into some counsling or a center for you disorder but that should be your #1 concern. Good luck on getting yourself some help!!!!!!
Reply:It depends on how strong your stomach acid is, and how strong your teeth were to begin with. Everyone is different so it is hard to tell.
Reply:Each time that you throw up it eats away at the enamel of your teeth. I have a really good friend and she has been struggling with bulimia since she was 15, she is now 25 and she no longer has part of her asogagus, and has had 3 major surgeries to repair the damage. None have fully helped because of the damage that has been one. She now has the beginning stages of cancer of the throat and the mouth. She also has no back teeth because the acid has eaten away at her teeth. She also only has partials on her front teeth, and can no longer eat meats.
Reply:There is no certain amount of times...It's a gradual process so if you've been doing it for years your enamel is bound to wear down. There are a lot more serious health problems that can result from purging...Your enamel should be the least of your concerns. You should probably see someone about this...Try eating healthy and exercising so you don't have to resort to such an unhealthy, dangerous option. I know someone who died from messing up their body by being bulimic...It's not worth it.
Reply:Depends on how much acid is in your stomach.
Reply:If there was something wrong with the enamel on your teeth, your dentist would have seen it without you asking her to look. And if there WAS something wrong...she would know why.

The bile in vomit can do more than erode the enamel on your teeth...THAT is the least of your concerns. Think about it, if bile can erode tooth enamel (and it can), think about what it can do to your gum tissue, and your esophagus.

I wish you wellness. Please keep fighting this like you are. Get help if you need it. God bless.
