How long does it take Yorkies to lose their baby teeth?

My female Yorkie pup is 8 months old and has not lost her front larger baby teeth (two at the top and two at the bottom,) but has also got her adult front teeth, so now she has 8 front teeth instead of 4. Is this normal, it looks mad. she does not seem to be bothered by them at all, and is not behaving any different to normal. I'm just curious to know if this is what normally happens, as all my other dogs in the past have been rescue dogs and have been older than this when I got them.

Often your dog will lose teeth without you even noticing. Many times a dog will already have it's adult teeth right behind it's baby teeth. If your 100% sure your dog hasn't lost her teeth, then I wouldn't worry about it. She'll lose them within the next couple of months, if she hasn't already.
Reply:It isn't normal, but it does happen occasionally. The adult teeth may have come through in such a way that they have jammed the bably teeth in. You need to keep an eye on her in case it starts annoying her and in case the baby teeth become roten. You may need to have the baby teeth rmoved under anasthetic. If they are not bothering her, mention it to the vet next time she goes.

You could give her plenty of hard chewy things which will encourage the baby teeth to fall out.
Reply:Normally dogs loose all of there baby teeth by 4 months old but normally can take up to 6 months. In smaller breeds like yours it is common to have retained baby teeth. It is not something you want to leave in there mouth as they can become infected, cause extra wear on the adult teeth, and are more likely to grow a lot of tarter. When you spay/neuter your pup (which you know is the right thing to do since you rescued dogs before) the veterinarian can remove them if they are still there.
Reply:Im a vet nurse, and this is quite common ! They have normally fallen out by 6 months, but you can have them removed if they are causing a problem, or distorting the adult teeth. Pop her in to the vets and see what they think - ask for a nurse appointment it will cost less !!!!!
