Why do some pregnant women lose their teeth during pregnancy?

I am 12 weeks and I was eating a sandwitch and the bottom back teeth came out. Have any had this problem?

Why do some pregnant women lose their teeth during pregnancy?
I have heard of this in nurses training. If memory serves me, it is a result of calcium depletion. The unborn baby is pulling calcium from your body as it develops. If your calcium levels were low to start with...which is true for many women, your body suffers from things like tooth loss. You need to be drinking milk and/or getting calcium in some other form right away.
Reply:This answer is wrong. It has nothing to do with calcium depletion and everrything to do with poor oral health care during an especially susceptible time.

Reply:'cos they just won't do as they are told ! !
Reply:You need pre-natal care. It happens sometimes because the baby is using your calcium. Go see a doctor.
Reply:Poor nutrition. "They say" you can lose a tooth for every pregnancy. You HAVE to eat right and take your vitamins. The baby gets the vitamins and nutrition first, taking it from your body. If you don't get enough calcium, you lose teeth. I had four kids. . .I lost one tooth.
Reply:during pregnancy the mother is supplying calciun to her baby as well as herself. the body takes calcium from the bones and teeth if she isnt eating enough
Reply:The baby is using up nutriants your body would otherwise use to maintain itself. TAKE YOUR PRENATAL VITAMINS! That's what they're for. In addition, drink lots of milk, eat healthy food, and exercise.
Reply:there is plague build up that turns into tartar. this is unhealthy for the gums and the underlying bone as bone resorption occurs. which means that pregnant women need to take extra care of their teeth with flossing and teeth brushing. the build up around teeth causes inflammation and periodontal disease that is characteristic of loosing teeth due to loss of anchorage around the teeth. basically you need to care for your teeth even more so than when not pregnant....
Reply:Pregnant women tend to have an increase in periodontal problems which can lead to bone reabsorption due to the changes in hormone levels in the blood. The surge in estrogen/progesterone creates an environment very suitable for certain bacteria in your mouth to florish, such as prevotella intermedia. The bacteria can cause inflammation of the gums, creating deeper pockets, making it more difficult to clean. Plaque forming under the gums allow other more virulent bacteria to colonize, leading to bone reabsorption. So as the previous poster stated, it's very important to maintain excellent oral hygiene during pregnancy, probably even more so than when not pregnant.
