How did Bobby Clarke lose his teeth?

Bobby Clarke played for the Philedephia Phlyers from 1969-1984. He is know for his toothless grin, but how did he become toothless?

Thanks in Advance

How did Bobby Clarke lose his teeth?
He lost them during his playing days. I remember that he came to the league with one front tooth already missing. He lost the other front tooth during the first Stanley Cup season in 1973-74. I remember it well. I was living in South Jersey at the time and became a big Flyers fan. I still follow them even though I moved to Florida a couple of years ago.
Reply:I was at one game several years ago when Bryan Watson knocked out several of his teeth in a team brawl in the 77-78 season
Reply:Clarke has diabetes – due to this he was constantly eating a ton of sugar and drinking many sodas, which rotted his teeth.

Clarkie and most of The Broad Street Bullies lost their teeth due to their guts and determination, their willingness to sacrifice their bodies for the sake of winning.
Reply:For the reasons these guys mention. I will add a story I heard Tie Domi once relate. When he was a kid, he was such a huge fan of Clarke, he purposely smashed his face into his bicycle handle bars, in an effort to knock out his teeth to look like Clarke. What a bright one he is.
