At the age of 47 i had lost several teeth which is better? implants or dentures?
Alright kathy dependes on the circumstance we usually diagnose different, but if u have the bone prerequisites, and the health it is much better to place implants, here are some reasons ..., bone in the mouth deteriorates when there is no teeth present, bone needs constant stimulation to maintain itself. Therefore, if you were to place dentures, full mouth or a partial denture u are merely putting something on top of the gums to be able to eat and smile. I hope this helped,

Reply:Implants are better. But not all people can get them. They can sometimes be rejected by the body. And they will cost so much you'll have to make payments on them like a car.
Reply:Implants are better, but are very expensive. The best thing to do is talk to your dentist and see what your options are. Everyone is different, and one may be better for you than the other. If you decide on implants, it's possible to have a payment plan for the cost. Many doctors and dentists do that now. Also, it may be covered under your insurance (either dental or medical) depending on what the dentist writes for a diagnosis.

Reply:Many say Implants. They are expensive, may be rejected at your expense and may be more trouble to keep clean, I not sure. I know they basically screw a mount into the bone and the Tooth mounted on what sticks out similar to a Crown. So, you may need to clean under the Tooth.


If, it only a few teeth, you would get a "Partial" as another alternative and they cheaper. There two types of partials. Plastic and Stainless Steel, the Stainless being the more expensive. Stainless you need to be careful drinking and eating hot things, as it can heat the Stainless up and actually burn you more. The Plastic may be the safer, but, it not hold up as well and may need replaced in time. You can remove a Partial and just brush it as you do your regular teeth or use a Cleaner.


Regardless of what you get. It will take time to adjust to this new intrusion in your mouth.

Dentures, can look VERY real, as long as you have a good dentist. Make sure you are fitted again after the swelling goes down. Also, if you don't like the implants, they are there....you don't have a choice, with dentures you can say...I want a different pair because these do not suit my mouth! With dentures your mouth can have a rest . Ultimately it is your choice, good luck.
Reply:the difference between the implant and the dentures it that the implant will be firmly attached to the bone and requires less maintenance but its a little bit more expensive .i will recomend you the implant the procedure its a litle more extensive but at the end you will fell bettter.

Reply:I had implants put in when I was 30 due to periodontal disease. They had to put in a bone graft from a bone bank in order for enough bone to be present to anchor the implants into. I had MAJOR problems involving chronic infections and rejection. For 2 years I had just the posts in -no enamels attached- and was almost constantly on Amoxicillin. When they were finally removed I had even less bone than before the whole ordeal began, less money and a Resistance to antibiotics from the continual long term use of them. Just my story, I know many people have had tremendous success with them but thought you might want to know what risks there are. Good Luck!
Reply:implants can be very expensive, but they are better. many people have a hard time adjusting to dentures. other options, are partials (partial dentures that secure to exhisting teeth) or bridges (like crowns, only there can be more than one, like to fill in a gap). they are not as expensive as dentures or implants, but do not last as long. it really depends, on what you will be comfortable with, and what you can afford
Reply:You need to get your mouth evaluated by a dentist and get a plan written up to decide how best to restore your teeth. Dentures as you have seen in other answers are an option- they may be right for you, they may be what is ultimately needed.





Get at least 2 opinions- once your teeth are gone- thats it, implants may be a good solution too but take the first step and have a plan.





I wear dentures and they are quite satisfactory for me.
