Little dog's teeth?

how old are little dogs when they lose their teeth. What do they need? Does it hurt them?

Little dog's teeth?
They lose the teeth from about 4-6 months they can start loosing them. It doesnt hurt them. Just be sure to get lots of chew toys for the puppy so that he/she doesnt chew on the furniture or shoes etc. When my puppy was teething we bought her a chew toy or 2 everytime we went to the store and she never chewed on anything except her toys. The key is to give your beloved pet lots of chew toys. You most likely wont find any of the teeth. It does hurt them so dont worry and happy teething!

I wish you and your puppy the best!
Reply:I'm not sure, but I think 4 months. My puppy lost a tooth at 4 months, but I only found 1, so I'm not sure if they all fall out, or even if all of his have fallen out, and I didn't notice. I only noticed the one I did, because I stepped on it, and it hurt really bad. But when I checked his mouth, a new one was already almost fully grown in it's place.
Reply:BETWEEN 4-6 MONTHS . PLAY A LOT OF "TUG OF WAR" WITH A TERRY TOWEL. THAT WILL HELP LOOSE ONES POP OUT. ALSO HAVE A LOT OF CHEW TOYS , STUFFED TOYS, PIG EARS ARE GREAT. ALL THIS WILL HELP.
Reply:4 months is common age for tooth loss in dogs. I would not suggest tug of war with a puppy at this age! It could dislodge the new adult teeth as they are growing in. . .they take a while to 'set' in the jaw.
Reply:I own small breed dogs and usually it takes about 6-7months for their baby teeth to fall out. During this time if would be great if you can provide your pup with chewing toys, greenies (dental treats), and raw hides. Also, you want to be sure to keep an eye on their teeth. The problem I have with my chihuahua is that his baby teeth were wiggling but his new set of teeth popped in! So now he has two rows of teeth! Worse part is his baby teeth are slowly rotting because it won't fall out. The vet advise us to wiggle it for him everyday and hopeful it will loosen up and eventually fall out. But because of this, not only his breathe stinks! But we might have to get him in the vet and surgically remove it which will cost us a bit there.

Well, different dog breeds are different. But just keep an eye on the lil runt... you don't want any difficulties in the long run and definitely you don't want to pay for surgery if its not necessary. Provide lots of raw hides, I hear that it will do the trick for your pup. Good luck!
Reply:my chihuahua was about 5-6months when he began to shed his baby teeth. they just need some nice safe chew toys and kibble to help through this chewing phase. while playing "tug" is fun, you wouldnt want to yank out one of puppys teeth. im sure they feel pain like us. sometimes you will notice they've spit out a tooth, other times i think they may swallow them while eating but you need to check them especially in toy dogs. sometimes they retain their puppy teeth and your vet has to pull them out under anesthesia. leaving them in will cause pain and future problems for your dog. my chi had double rows of teeth so i know about the retained teeth. good luck to you and your puppy!! i am a bit leary about the "greenies" and the raw hides. i know a few dogs that got pieces lodged in their little throats-not a pretty sight. i dont think i'd try and wiggle out a tooth--extraction at the vets is best--and price doesnt matter when you want the best for your beloved pet. afterall, pet care is part of the responsibility of owning a pet.
Reply:Usually the average is 6 months. Give the pup things to chew on so the teeth will come out. Small breeds are very prone to retained baby teeth and then the teeth have to be removed by the vet or food can build up between the baby and the adult tooth.

It is like us losing baby theeth. It does not really hurt them any more than it hurt us.
Reply:They should start to to get their adult teeth at about 4 months old.Try giving a few ice cubes for it to chew that will help to ease the pain; thats why they chew.
